The Nursery Archive

This is my own little trip down memory lane, and what a ride it's been for Emerald City Rabbitry!

My journey with Holland Lops started in 2018, but 2020 is when I began breeding pedigreed bunnies and documenting every litter under the Emerald City Rabbitry name, so that's where this page begins. From our first Café litter to our last little Storybook Bears, it covers every litter from then on: 17 litters and 79 babies. That isn't a lot for a rabbitry, and that was always the point. This was a passion project, and I knew every single baby personally. Each one still has a special place in my heart!

Every one of these bunnies found a loving home, including our adults, who have all since retired. I still keep in touch with most of these families, and I always take back any bunny I bred if their home doesn't work out. We lost a few little ones along the way. I've included small memorials for them below, because they're part of this story too.

You'll see "Vienna-Marked" a lot below. It means a bunny carries the Vienna gene, which usually gives them blue eyes and a little white marking or stripe in their fur. Extreme Vienna-Marked means more than half of their coat is white. Those blue eyes are what captivated me in the first place, and from there I leaned into unique fur patterns, mainly harlequins. Unique colors made every litter a fun genetics challenge and a little mystery, and every baby came out so different. But in the end, personality and temperament always mattered most.

Every photo on this page is my own. Photography has always been a pride and joy of mine, and getting to bring it together with the bunnies is what made this rabbitry such a special passion project. The litters are listed from our very last to our very first.

Thank you for taking this walk with me. It was such a special chapter of my life, and I love looking back on it.

Our Storybook Bears Litter

Born Thursday, August 17, 2023

Mom: Lola · Extreme Vienna-Marked Torted Black/Orange Harlequin
Dad: Vince · Vienna-Marked Chinchilla

Our very last litter, and Lola's second with me. I picked this theme before they were even born, knowing that whatever colors came out, they'd look like beautiful little bears. These boys are half-siblings to our Breakfast Cereal litter through Lola. I love them all so much, and I was so glad that Corduroy and Winnie got to go home together. They arrived just one day after the Postcard Adventures litter, so the nursery was overflowing that August!

Paddington (Male) · Vienna-Marked Black/Orange Harlequin
Corduroy (Male) · Vienna-Marked Black/Orange Harlequin (Low Rufus)
Teddy (Male) · Chestnut
Winnie (Male) · Blue-Eyed White

Our Postcard Adventures Litter

Born Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Mom: Juniper · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin
Dad: Mr. Magoo · Vienna-Marked Blue Sable Magpie

Juniper was such a special girl, and this was her very first litter, born one day before the Storybook Bears as one of our very last. Mr. Magoo's blue sable magpie coloring came through beautifully. Paris went on to become a stud at a well-known rabbitry, carrying on this stunning lineage. That was such a dream goal of mine, and a beautiful way to close my rabbitry chapter.

Rio (Male) · Vienna-Marked Blue Sable Magpie
Juneau (Female) · Vienna-Marked Black Tort
Rome (Female) · Vienna-Marked Blue Sable Magpie
Paris (Male) · Blue Sable Magpie
London (Female) · Extreme Vienna-Marked Blue Harlequin

Our Breakfast Cereal Litter

Born Sunday, April 23, 2023

Mom: Lola · Extreme Vienna-Marked Torted Black/Orange Harlequin
Dad: Cody · Vienna-Marked Blue Harlequin

Lola's first litter with me, and a whole bowl of harlequins! Lola was such a lovely mom. Her litters were always consistent, and she took such good care of her babies and raised them well. She was on the bigger side, and for the most part her babies grew up that way too. I loved how these names ended up fitting each baby's coloring and personality so perfectly.

Lucky Charm (Female) · Extreme Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin
Cap'n Crunch (Male) · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin
Cocoa Puff (Female) · Vienna-Marked Torted Orange Harlequin
Apple Jack (Male) · Vienna-Marked Torted Orange Harlequin
Cheerio (Female) · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin

Our Forest Grove Litter

Born Tuesday, October 25, 2022

Mom: Bailey · Vienna-Marked Chocolate
Dad: Earl Grey · Vienna-Marked Opal

Bailey's chocolate really shone through in her second litter with me, which meant Earl Grey was quietly carrying chocolate too! Birch was our only harlequin, which was such a beautiful surprise. Just like their parents, these babies all grew up on the petite side. Earl Grey was born right here in our Afternoon Tea litter, which made these babies Pixie and BlueJay's grandbabies. What's really cute is that Cypress went home to live with Earl Grey's family, who got the pick of the litter.

Cypress (Male) · Vienna-Marked Chocolate
Birch (Male) · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin
Cedar (Female) · Vienna-Marked Chocolate
Hickory (Female) · Vienna-Marked Chestnut
Spruce (Female) · Vienna-Marked Chocolate

In memory of one tiny blue-eyed white peanut. Peanuts happen when both parents are true dwarfs, each carrying one copy of the dwarf gene. A baby who inherits a copy from both is born very tiny, and sadly can't survive.

Our Game Night Litter

Born Thursday, September 8, 2022

Mom: Raine · Vienna-Marked Black Sable Magpie
Dad: Earl Grey · Vienna-Marked Opal

Earl Grey's very first litter as a dad. This was a big litter of eight, and a very emotional one. We lost five at birth, and I bottle-fed these three to get them through, so I really bonded with them. Raine retired after this litter. We tried our best, but being a mama just wasn't for her, and she's happily enjoying her retirement at a young age. Uno only had one ear, since his mama accidentally nibbled the other at birth, but he was perfectly healthy otherwise and truly one of a kind.

Chess (Female) · Blue-Eyed White
Checkers (Male) · Chinchilla
Uno (Male) · Vienna-Marked Blue Chinchilla

In memory of the five little ones we lost at birth.

Our Animal Crackers Litter

Born Friday, June 3, 2022

Mom: Moxie · Blue-Eyed White
Dad: Gizmo · Vienna-Marked Torted Orange Harlequin

Moxie and Gizmo made such cute babies together that we paired them again, which makes these four full siblings to the Candy Shop boys. Same parents, and yet the two litters came out so different! Tiger and Bumblebee's banded harlequin coats fit their names perfectly. Mouse holds an extra special place in our story. When Moxie retired, she went to live with him, and mother and son bonded as a pair forever.

Tiger (Male) · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin
Bumblebee (Female) · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin
Mouse (Male) · Blue-Eyed White
Bear (Male) · Blue-Eyed White

Our Fashion Week Litter

Born Sunday, April 17, 2022

Mom: Pixie · Vienna-Marked Blue Tort
Dad: Gizmo · Vienna-Marked Torted Orange Harlequin

Born on Easter Sunday! Pixie's second litter with me, and every single baby came out torted. Louis was our little superstar, the cutest little baby with the perfect white stripe, and our big genetic surprise: a lilac tort, a color that only shows up when both parents pass along the genes for blue and chocolate. We hoped to carry on his line when he grew up, but he wasn't able to sire babies.

These babies traveled far! Gucci flew up to Alaska to live out her days, Armani moved to Vancouver, BC, and Dior and Burberry went home together as a bonded pair (I always love when that works). They arrived just two days after the Gemstone litter, which made for a busy week. I sometimes planned litters close together like this so babies could be moved between mamas, keeping any one mom from being overwhelmed with too many or left with too few.

Armani (Male) · Vienna-Marked Black Tort
Dior (Female) · Blue Tort
Gucci (Female) · Extreme Vienna-Marked Black Tort
Burberry (Male) · Vienna-Marked Torted Orange Harlequin
Louis (Male) · Vienna-Marked Lilac Tort

Our Gemstone Litter

Born Friday, April 15, 2022

Mom: Bailey · Vienna-Marked Chocolate
Dad: Douglas · Extreme Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin

Bailey's first litter with me, and a big one! With two Vienna-marked parents, half the litter came out blue-eyed white. Moonstone and Diamond went home together to live in Montana. These babies are half-siblings to our Forest Grove litter through Bailey.

Marble (Male) · Vienna-Marked Cream Harlequin
Diamond (Female) · Blue-Eyed White
Garnet (Male) · Black
Topaz (Male) · Blue-Eyed White
Moonstone (Female) · Vienna-Marked Cream Harlequin
Sapphire (Female) · Blue-Eyed White

Our Afternoon Tea Litter

Born Wednesday, February 2, 2022

Mom: Pixie · Vienna-Marked Blue Tort
Dad: BlueJay · Vienna-Marked Chinchilla

Pixie's first litter with me, born on Groundhog Day, the very same day as the Candy Shop boys. Eight babies in one day! These were absolutely stunning babies with beautiful type, which is breeder talk for great conformation, or body shape and build. This is where our Earl Grey came from, and he went on to father the Game Night and Forest Grove litters.

Earl Grey (Male) · Vienna-Marked Opal
Boba (Female) · Cream Harlequin
Matcha (Female) · Blue-Eyed White
Sweet Tea (Male) · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin

Our Candy Shop Litter

Born Wednesday, February 2, 2022

Mom: Moxie · Blue-Eyed White
Dad: Gizmo · Vienna-Marked Torted Orange Harlequin

Moxie and Gizmo's first litter together, born on Groundhog Day alongside the Afternoon Tea litter. They made such cute babies that I repeated the pairing for the Animal Crackers. Gumdrop and Taffy were so identical that I told them apart by color: red for Gumdrop and blue for Taffy.

Bonbon (Male) · Vienna-Marked Harlequinized Chestnut
Gumdrop (Male) · Blue-Eyed White
Truffle (Male) · Vienna-Marked Black
Taffy (Male) · Blue-Eyed White

Our Sleigh Bells Litter

Born Saturday, December 11, 2021

Mom: Moxie · Blue-Eyed White
Dad: Tiger · Orange/Black Harlequin

Born just in time for Christmas! Because Moxie is a blue-eyed white, every one of these babies carried the Vienna gene, even though only Cupid showed the markings. Dancer and Prancer went home together and lived happily ever after.

Dasher (Male) · Harlequinized Chestnut
Dancer (Female) · Cream Harlequin
Prancer (Male) · Cream Harlequin
Comet (Male) · Orange Harlequin
Cupid (Male) · Vienna-Marked Cream Harlequin

Our Summit Litter

Born Sunday, July 18, 2021

Mom: Moxie · Blue-Eyed White
Dad: Lucky · Vienna-Marked Cream/Blue Harlequin

A true color jackpot, with absolutely stunning babies in a whole rainbow of colors! Each one was named for a famous mountain, with a few Washington favorites like Rainier, Cascade, and Crystal in the mix. Mont Blanc went by Monty.

Everest (Female) · Vienna-Marked Orange Harlequin
Crystal (Female) · Vienna-Marked Orange
Rainier (Female) · Vienna Carrier Blue Sable Magpie
Cascade (Female) · Vienna-Marked Chinchilla
Denali (Male) · Vienna Carrier Black

Our Celestial Litter

Born Friday, March 26, 2021

Mom: Moxie · Blue-Eyed White
Dad: Jasper · Orange/Black Tri-Color

Moxie's very first litter, and another color jackpot, thanks to Jasper's tri-color genes. We named Neptune after Moxie's own dad, so she was named for her grandpa. Stardust went by Star. Eclipse and Neptune both went to live in Canada, near Toronto, and it was so special to have our babies spread far and wide!

Neptune (Female) · Broken Chinchilla
Stardust "Star" (Male) · Vienna-Marked Orange Tri-Color
Eclipse (Male) · Broken Black
Galaxy (Male) · Orange Harlequin
Mars (Female) · Vienna-Marked Harlequinized Chestnut
Moon (Male) · Orange Tri-Color

Our Woodland Litter

Born Saturday, October 31, 2020

Mom: Willow · Lilac Otter
Dad: Jester · Heavily Vienna-Marked Chocolate Otter

A Halloween birthday! Willow and Jester, both otters, surprised us with two babies in orange and cream, while Fern took after her mom as a lilac otter. We let our neighbors' two daughters name this litter, and their family ended up bringing Maple and Fern home as a Christmas surprise.

Maple (Female) · Orange
Bambi (Female) · Cream
Fern (Female) · Lilac Otter

In memory of the fourth baby, a stunning lilac otter, lost at birth.

Our Sweet Tooth Litter

Born Wednesday, May 27, 2020

Mom: Emerald · Vienna-Marked Orange
Dad: Little Imperial Prince · Vienna-Marked Frosted Cream Harlequin

I hate to pick favorites, but this was my most special litter of all time, and definitely the most memorable. Their markings were absolutely stunning, and I adore every one of them. Twix was such a friendly, unique girl, and I still regret not keeping her. Caramello and Milky Way both went on to become mamas themselves, so I'm so glad this litter's heritage carried on.

Cookie Dough (Female) · Vienna-Marked Orange/Black Harlequin
Coconut (Male) · Blue-Eyed White
Caramello (Female) · Vienna-Marked Blue/Cream Harlequin
S'mores (Male) · Vienna-Marked Orange/Black Harlequin
Milky Way (Female) · Blue/Cream Harlequin
Cream Puff (Male) · Blue-Eyed White
Twix (Female) · Vienna-Marked Orange/Black Harlequin

In memory of a little Vienna-marked frosted cream harlequin, who stayed with us for six days.

Our Marvelous M's Litter

Born Thursday, April 30, 2020

Mom: Ostara · Blue-Eyed White
Dad: Neptune · Blue-Eyed White

This litter was planned with one hope in mind: keeping a blue-eyed white baby girl from birth for my breeding program. Two blue-eyed white parents meant every baby would be snowy white, and every name started with M. Ostara was such a petite, tiny girl, and one of the most nurturing mothers I've ever seen. Choosing between Magnolia and Moxie was so hard. In the end, I went with Moxie. She was slightly bigger, which made being a mother less risky for her, and she gravitated toward me. By three weeks old we had such a bond, and from then on we were attached at the hip. Moxie was such an important girl. She trusted me enough to be there for the births of some of her litters, and she was an amazing, natural mom to five litters and 25 babies of her own. In retirement, she lives with her son Mouse.

Milo (Male) · Blue-Eyed White
Magnolia (Female) · Blue-Eyed White
Moxie (Female) · Blue-Eyed White

In memory of two tiny blue-eyed white peanuts, who inherited the dwarf gene from both parents and were born too small to stay with us.

Our Cafe Litter

Born Friday, January 3, 2020

Mom: Emerald · Vienna-Marked Orange
Dad: S'mores · Vienna-Marked Chocolate Otter

Not my very first litter, but my first under the Emerald City Rabbitry name, with pedigreed bunnies and every detail documented. This is where it all began. Emerald joined us in December 2019, already expecting, and just a few weeks later these four arrived.

Chai (Male) · Chocolate Torted Otter
Spice (Male) · Black Torted Otter
Noir (Female) · Black Otter
Meringue (Male) · Blue-Eyed White
